Elska van de Oeienbos

At that time we had only one bloodhound and heard of people saying that it was a pitty…. Only one is a lonely bloodhound.

So we decided to look for another one.

Almost every week we came to the house of Louis van der Meeren of the Oeienbos bloodhounds and bij coincidence he had a litter.

The mother of the litter died after 3 days and almost all the puppies died shortly after her. Elska was left behind, together with her little brother. She was a great puppy. Always howling with excitement and very enthusiastic.

When we arrived at the Oeienbos she followed us around, howling and barking.

She immediately stole my hart.

When she was 6 weeks old, Louis told us, we could take her home if we wanted her…. Sure we did that!!

Finally we had a real puppy.

We called her Elska, that is another Icelandic name that means about the same as Aust.

So we had two sweeties, darlings in one house.

In the beginning Aust didn´t like the sharing thing a lot but after a few weeks, they couldn't live without eachother. They really did a lot of playing together. All days and evenings they where running and playing together.

So great to see…

Off course we took Elska out trailing as well but she didn´t have the same talent and passion for it that Aust had.

She went for the cookies, more then the smell and it took her about 4 years to get a bit more serious at it.

At last she won the Senior class at the Field trials of the Dutch Bloodhound Club and I can say we never expected her to do so!!

Elska became 9 years old on the 18th of September 2004. We do hope to be able to keep her for a long time after this.
